Story:

Ms. Mackenzi’s Farm to Table class students were busy growing plants and collaborating with other classes to create some amazing pieces for the IHS Spring Expo (April 2022). Each plant was hand grown by IHS students using hydroponic methods for sustainable growing. (see Hydroponic Garden project for reference). They grew herbs, flowers, fruits, tropicals, and wide variety of other plants.

Ms. Ronnie’s Osiris Fashion Department students created a myriad of garden accessories to pair with the plants, like decorated glass pots, fairy sticks, macrame hangers. adorable signs, and plant themed jewelry. Mr. Sean’s Industrial Design maker-space students then designed and crafted a variety of different plant boxes, trellises, and plant stands to house and support the flora. And to top it off, Ms. Rebecca’s Osiris and Mr. Dario’s Art students created garden decor using up-cycled aluminum cans and river stones from the river bed of the Columbia River, hand-painting cans, pots, and stones for a variety of unique options.

These multiple departments worked together to plan and execute a 2 day Expo that was open to friends, family, and the general public! Students showed their work, explained the processes of making and growing items, and even provided a DIY planting station.
